8 am:
From above, the sound of scraping as the roofers dismantle the old in prep for the new! The plumber bailed on today's appt; tomorrow! In a way, his doing so made a decision for me: now I can go meet with my Thurs stitchin' group! Hooray! And today's especially lovely: sunny, warm - already 54°and on the way to 70° ~ no complaints in this category, either.
I've been reading a The Way of Gratitude: Readings for A Joyful Life in the mornings. The book features both essays and poems from a host of writers who "share their experience and ideas on the joy of being thankful." And from this book, in honor of A Poem in Your Pocket Day, I share this by Mary Oliver:
Messenger
"My work is loving the world. Here, the Sunflowers, there the hummingbird - equal seekers of sweetness. Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums, Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.
Are my boots old? Is my coat torn? Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me keep my mind on what matters, which is my work,
which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished. The phoebe, the delphinium. The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture. Which is mostly rejoicing, since all the ingredients are here,
which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart and these body-clothes, a mouth with which to give shouts of joy to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam, telling them all, over and over, how it is that we live forever."

Time now to dress and get ready to go! Have a great day ~ read your favorite poems and find some new ones!
