we didn't see sunrise 'cause it's snowing lightly - just enough to cause 270+ school closing in the area...and another day of frigid temps (albeit a tad warmer: 24 degrees as I pen this). I've decided that if the undesired occurs, such as the furnace dies or some other thing happens - power outage; pipes freeze - we're off to The Hotel, providing its not experiencing any problems...Norman doesn't know it 'cause I just made that decision... I like the cold but I don't like being cold...
...browsing google, I discovered three "news"items of interest that would be excellent topics to share on Unraveled Wednesday but since it's Thursday and on my radar, I thought Today, especially since they make up three things:
thing one:
PBS NewsHour and the NYT Book Review announced they are sponsoring a monthly book discussion : Now Read This - starting now. The first book is Jesmyn Ward's Sing Unburied Sing, 2017 National Book Award fiction winner. The book's on my list and I noted on several others' so I share here in case you missed the news...I plan to give the book discussion a try...
thing two:
Small Things blog and Yarn Along. This was new to me; I gather from the comments that the monthly yarn along had been on hiatus...seems that folk are happy that "it's back!"
thing three:
I remember the days when one pulled up to a gas station and an attendant would pop out to "fill 'er up." My dad would always get out the car and chat...and whistle the same tune - which he promptly forgot the minute he got back in the car. I'd ask: "Daddy, what's that tune?" and his answer: "What tune?" To this day, I can't reproduce that tune but I bet I'd know it if I heard it...which leads me to yesterday's lifehacker.com post. Apparently, Oregonians in rural areas are now, as of 1 Jan 2018, able to pump their own gas - OR and NJ are the only two states in the union (I believe) where there are gas station attendants. Obviously, some folk don't know how to pump gas and this article had me laughing out loud! But I guess it "t'aint funny, McGhee..."
Enjoy your Thursday and check out Carole's post for others' Three onThursday shares...
Cheers~
