( Norman explaining something to Doris and Margaret before we began...)
I managed to get all preparations done in time for my friends arrival, 10:30 AM-ish. We settled in for our bimonthly sharing and discussion of the books we had read and/or abandoned over the past two months. As hostess, I started first...and shared the fiction titles I've read (via AudibleBooks ) since Summer Book Bingo began, Memorial Day weekend. My goal this year has been to step up my reading of fiction - not a hard task, since even if I read only one title, that would be a significant milestone... I am gaining traction, thanks to Audible.
Friends Doris and Kay shared their picks - they both read a lot of fiction: Doris likes character driven family stories/sagas and Kay - mysteries. Each provided me with some good future possibilities...and then, Margaret shared a nonfiction title: Language At the Speed of Sight. It is the author's argument for how to best teach people to read. We had quite a lengthy discussion and I now have the book to a) read myself and b) share with my knitting friend Theresa who is also a reading specialist and has been for quite some time...I will be quite interested in both our takes... (The link takes you to the goodreads reviews and I think they are a good indicator of the tenor of our discussion.)
Lunch was tasty: salad with baked chicken strips and fresh summer fruits: strawberries; blueberries; grape tomatoes; and canned pineapple chunks and mandarin orange topped with poppyseed dressing...My take on Panera's very.delicious summer salad. Dessert: carrot cake.
We had a good time and now, I'm going to go check out Amazon Prime Day specials...before midnight rolls around...and perhaps finish Louise Penny's A Fatal Grace. I may order the third tile in the series from Amazon tonight, too...just to have it around...
T'was a good day. How was yours? Tomorrow, I think we will go see about Norman's phone!
Cheers~
