...and so, the doors opened at 10 AM sharp and just as before, a nice crowd had gathered, waiting for the magic hour to begin! Once in, ticket purchased: next stop: purchase ticket/s for the two raffle quilts - both lap size made by members of our guild and/or one of if not all three, raffle baskets - one totally filled with choc-o-late!
Others, who knew they could return later to get raffle tickets, as expected, made a beeline to the Peddler's Table. Down the hall;, up a flight of stairs. Wowza! Tables filled with all sort of goodies: fabric; notions; patterns; threads, etc. Sitting at the pay table, 5-6 members ready to write receipts and take payment.
Many members make Baltimore Album quilts or took a class in the past two years; these quilts are representative of their work; some are hand quilted as well as hand appliquéd. (Apologies for the darkness of the one on the left.)
And those that didn't go to the Peddler's Table visited the show. With over 200 quilts, many bed-sized, there was a lot to see. My friends Margaret and Kay arrived about 10:45 am and it took us easily two hours to do the entire show. And even though I had taken a walk through yesterday, there was so much still to see. I particularly enjoyed sharing the show with my friends because I could give them a little background about the quilters...and at times, even introduce them if the quilter/s happened to be in the room. It was also fun to look at the quilts through my friends eyes and to hear their comments.
Hearts are a popular meme in quilting and I found these various interpretations interesting. The quilt on the right is made from hand embroidered tea towels made by the quilter's great grandmothers. The quilter made them into a small quilt , both front and back. Certainly a heart -filled cherished piece.
I decided to group some of the photos into mini collages - I took a number of photos (and am thankful for extra cloud storage) - as they were also arranged thematically: subject; color; product of a class taken by several members of the group, etc... or the quilt speaks to my own sense of color, design, inspiration...
this particular quilt reminds me of the mandala
After we finished with the show, we went to lunch at a nearby restaurant. My friend Margaret and I both had delicious crabcake; Kay, a Ceasar Salad. And because today is Poem in Your Pocket Day, friend Margaret gave each of us an Haiku poem she selected and handwrote on a card that we could carry around in our pocket today. I thought I'd share mine with you.
Tomorrow, I work the Peddler's Table - wonder what's left- and I'm "white-gloving" (showing the backside of the quilts on display). Plus I'll share more quilts... Now, it's time for a glass of wine...
Cheers~
