Mondays are my quilting association's meeting day and this past Monday, as I drove north on I-95 ( NYC, anyone?), I was pleasantly surprised to see how very much the trees were dressed in their autumn frocks. I hadn't been to Columbia MD (where we meet - about 35 miles as the crow flies) in several weeks so I think the change in the trees along the roadside was even more dramatic. Especially when compared to the trees in my neighborhoods...we're just enough further south that the difference is noticeable. As my mind clicked photo after photo, I wished there was a safe way or place I could "pull-off" so I could stop, jump out of the car and take a photo or two...
Arriving at the church where we meet, I was greeted with the sight of the lovely maple tree --- I think. (Note to self: check that out next week.) All dressed in her vivid yellow-orange-red autumn frock. And there, surrounding the tree were the last vestiges of the the church's annual pumpkin patch crop, received every year from the Navaho in New Mexico. Since this was the last day of the month, the pickings were slim but a bargain: two for the price of one - the second had to be the same or a smaller size.
After our meeting, I returned to the pumpkin patch and found two very nice pumpkins. They now sit on the front steps along with a third that my neighbor gave us. The church volunteer, minding the patch, offered to take my picture under the tree so now I have my photo as well as my photographic memories.
Fall is my favorite season and perhaps what I love the most: the glorious colors of the trees, bushes and flowers. Always a sight to behold. What do you most like about Fall?
Cheers~
