According to Jamie Novak, author of several books on organizing and time management, "[Did you know] research shows that by January 7th more than 30% of us have already given up on our resolutions? Don't be a statistic!" I thought I was on my way to being a statistic! Not that I'd given up but the gods certainly conspired against me and my plans over the past few days of this new year, 2011. Let's backtrack:
New Year's Day was great. My friend Margaret is a New Year's baby and to celebrate, we had brunch and watched the Rose Bowl Parade. Last year she had helped put together a float and so watching the parade was even more special because we had benefit of her commentary from her experience plus the extra wide HD screen.
Sunday, we installed a new modem and router and all was swell until I tried to log onto the Internet with my computer...just wasn't going to happen. Norman's son, whose 9-5 is as a computer technician, was unable to get my computer to log on, plus hours - at least two-on the phone with tech support in the Philipines. They finally concluded that the problem was with my laptop...
Monday, I called Sony and for two plus hours, my laptop was remotely examined from head to toe; there were no problems. Was I able to connect after that...and a $130 fee, I might add? Nope. Nope. Nope! Yesterday (Tuesday), I contacted my internet provider again and they were finally able to get my Sony with Windows Vista online. How? By resetting the security setting. The main reason we installed new equipment was to have a higher setting...oh well...
In the meantime, adding insult to injury, I also came down with a cold - my second in as many months and I do not get colds!
Today, I have access from my computer, thank goodness. Even though I could go online to check email using either Norman's laptop, my iPhone or my netbook, the way I use the web is pretty much dependent on being able to access my computer and its files. And I use two monitors. Plus I normally have multiple windows open... In short, I have my preferred ways.
Now that I'm back in business, I'm ready to get down to business and accomplish a lot in this year. Here's to not being a statistic. And as Oprah says, "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right."
