Honoré here: If I didn't know any better, I'd think we were living in the "frozen north," as my mother was so fond of branding cold weather. Now, my friend Kathy, on the other hand, just loves the cold; her body thermostat thrives in cold weather. Kathy only wears a coat when it rains; otherwise, in winter, she's running around with bare arms, at least at or below the elbow. However, I digress. I'm not really writing about Kathy or the cold weather. I'm writing about the impending blizzard that is on track to hit us here in the Washington DC, Delaware and New Jersey areas tomorrow. No opera for me on Saturday.
Yes, we're slated to have 18 - 24 inches of that white stuff dumped on us, in 24 hours or less, starting mid afternoon, tomorrow. Earlier today, the sky was just as blue and bright as it could be and the temperature was in the high 30s. As I write this, the sky's turning a dull grey; the storm's acoming.
This morning, like thousands of people across the region, we went to the grocery store to stock up. We bought bread, orange juice, fruit, a roast, chicken legs, a coconut cake and a few other assorted items. Foods that we could cook ahead and munch on in case we lost electricity. And we bought batteries for the flashlight.
I'm hoping that the snow/blizzard won't cause us to lose power; I'm hoping that I'll be able to work on my projects using electricity, not candles and that come SuperBowl Sunday, even if we're knee-deep in snow, we'll be able to watch the game and enjoy. Whatever, we're ready.
