Honoré here: Yesterday when I returned home after knitting class, a large brown jiffy-bag envelope was among the mail. Yay! It's here! It?! It is Sue Spargo's 2010 Crimson Tweed Block of the Month and this was the makings for the first block.
We - my friend and quilting buddy - have been anxiously checking the mail all week, hoping each day would bring our happy mail. We'd made a pact that we would only open our package when both of us had received ours. I knew she was away from home until early evening so I took the envelope upstairs, away from temptation. And waited until the time I thought she'd be home to call...About 7 pm, the phone rang; my sister. We talked for about 35 minutes and when we hung up, I had a voice mail message from my friend, who could hardly contain herself: "Call!" Sounded like she had also received her happy mail.
I called. We opened our envelopes, examined the contents: hand-dyed woolens; veleveteens, threads and embellishments; and the instructions. We oohed and aahed. And planned to meet virtually and start the project today ~ which we did, calling every hour to report progress on creating the first block and sharing hints and tips about what we were discovering as we went through the steps:" Watch carefully here...how many leaves are dark? oops, I cut those circles wrong; the thread is so fine and yet, I can't thread the needle - the eye's too small..." For 6 hours we cut, stitched, called back and forth and had loads of fun with our happy mail.
Neither of us is at all done with the first block...and the February one is just a couple weeks away. We can't wait!
Cheers~
