I am starting on a new monthly adventure, one that I hope will become an established routine. Here we are, beginning the second half of the year and I have been very haphazard with the blog. Each month if not each week or even day - dare I reveal that? - I have written on my "2 do" list: post to blog... and each day passes and ...
Today whiile reading Lee Currie's current blog post "4 Simple Goals,"I realized that kicking off the month with a similar post here was something I could and probably would do, especially if tied it to the 4th of the month. So, you can say you read it here first <smile>: this is the official debut of my monthly 4 goals post. And without further adieu, here are my goals:
Goal # 1: Move more.
Over the past month I've fallen off my almost daily walk routine. I have had plenty of excuses: Too hot. Raining. Too busy. Otherwise engaged. Lazy. Several months ago I downloaded the app Map My Walk and when I did walk, I used it. The other day, I received in my e-mail a six month's summary. I was impressed by the stats and sobbered by the realization that I could have had a better overview had I moved more.
Goal # 2: Play with iPhone camera apps.
One of the reasons I upgraded my iPhone last year was because I wanted a better camera and one that I'd have with me practically all the time. Last fall, I took an online class on iPhone photography and tested out a few apps but I've not really used any consistently. Last month, I participated in #FMSphotoaday and am continuing this month. I am also taking the Big Picture Class' PhonePhotography July challenge. I have and am gathering a lot of information, techniques and likes; I plan to share my photos on a weekly basis...so, stay tuned.
Goal # 3: Practice drawing faces.
Whose face, you ask? Well, no one in particular and everyone's in general. In early June, I took a class from Dina Wakley on drawing faces and absolutely, totally enjoyed the process. I have begun to collect pictures of faces from magazines; books and video tutorials on drawing faces and now, I can't look at a photo of a human face without drawing it in my mind. But, I need to also pick up the pencil and practice drawing. Last Sunday, my sister, nieces and I spent the afternoon drawing faces; we had fun and I think we're all smitten, now. I look forward to sharing my faces here.
Goal #4: Get an earlier start to my day.
No, I don't mean wake up any earlier (tho' I have been sleeping "in" more, i.e., getting up at 7 - 7:30 am rather than 5:30-6 am). Rather, I mean, end Morning Solitude and Quiet Time (MSQT) earlier. Since I've returned from my trip to Ohio, I've extended MSQT so my "start" time on the day's agenda has been later and later in the day. I need to - and want to - make better use of each day. I think this goal is going to be a challenge; I so love MSQT but I also have lots on the agenda for this month and next. As my mother was fond of saying: "time to get a move on, kiddie."
Dusk is at hand; as I pen this, the sounds of fireworks are beginning. In a few minutes, the National fireworks display on the Smithsonian Mall will begin. We're watching as usual - on the TV...the very best seat in the house!
... a happy July 4th to you!
