Honoré here. When last I posted, I was well on my way to completing my January 2013 One Little Word prompt, fully intending to share on the blog no later than Sunday. Well, as the title of this post suggests, the best laid plans often go astray.
We had a little drama in this house on Sunday: Norman fell on his way to church, just steps away from the house. Ice patches. His feet went out from under him, he landed on his back and hit his head; he said he saw stars. Fortunately and thankfully he is OK and there have not been any repercussions. And there is more: he also lost his keys... and that required other steps be taken.
In addition, I've had a busy couple days. Saturday we celebrated Kayla's twelfth birthday at her favorite Japanese restaurant and Sunday I went to a party for my doggy god-child Watson - he's so cute - and of course, we had to watch the Super Bowl...all of which brings me to today. I finally finished the prompt. Drum roll please...
My 2013 word is HEART! The word just showed up in my life one day in September and has been with me ever since. Naturally my RAS -reticular activating system- is revved up and I'm drawn to hearts in all sizes and shapes and I'm having fun as I engage with my word. So, without further adieu, I present my January prompt:
Front side:
Row 1: Begin - Make progress every day...Quote: My soul directs my journey ~ Alma Cox
Embrace - Imperfection...Quote: I am perfectly imperfect ~ Brene Brown
Row 2: Inspire: Look. Listen. Laugh. Learn. Love. Quote: ancora imparo (I am still learning) ~ Michelangelo.
Row 3: Appreciate - Keep a daily gratitude journal. Quote: Gratitude is the heart's memory ~ French proverb.
Celebrate: Scrapbook. Journal. Quilt. Share. Quote: Tell the stories of my life.
Back side:
Row 1: Broaden - my horizons. Go outside, try new techniques. Travel. Quote: Wherever you go, go with all your heart ~ Confucius
Give - in all the ways that only I can. Quote: ...and ye shall receive.
Row 2: Enjoy - Cultivate habits & routines that make me happy. Quote: the pleasure of doing the same thing in the same way, everyday, shouldn't be overlooked ~Gretchen Rubin
Create - Make art. Draw. Write. Stitch. Sing. Quote: Live as only you can ~ Neil Gaman.
Row 3: Fill - my home, schedule and life with what makes me happy. Quote: Believe in the sweet comfort of home & its power to soothe the heart. (Only room on the card for the last three words;-))
Practice - Play. Experiment. Fail. Proceed. Quote: Enjoy the process.
I decided not to focus on a specific intention in any one given month though no doubt I will perhaps give more emphasis to one or more . For example, I began 2013 with the intention Appreciate and started the journal . I have done so for 37 days...well on my way to cultivating a new habit and adding the routine to MSQT.
By that same token, I got off track with the stitching around the photo: the combination of glittery thread and slippery substrate caused my stitches to go agley, too. Normally I probably would have redone it - and used a new page protector - but I chose to embrace impefection and I'm perfectly OK with it!
So, there we have it. To be continued...
Cheers~

oh my - I'm so glad Norman is OK. what a scare!
re OLW - I think it's ALL perfect. and very you. I love the way you used the heart motif and the quotations to guide the intentions. ...and of course I can't wait to se how this plays out! I'm sure you're having a BALL with the February prompt!!
(p.s. what gold pen did you use? I haven't found one that writes that well!)

Glad to hear that nothing terrible came of that unfortunate fall and that Norman is ok. I bet the keys saga has been a bind though. Delighted to see your word! Your cards are full of rich and creative promise and I am looking forward to seeing It unfold for you this year!

I,too, see hearts everywhere now, Dear One! You have outdone yourself this time...the inspiration shines through. Clearly, the project turned out exactly the way it was supposed to. Thanks for the reminder about quotes...finishing up this weekend.
