Fast forward almost four decades: my
friend and I now live hundreds of miles apart so we no longer have sewing
marathons nor a loft. Except, in a way, I do, if only in my mind. I decided
that I'd refer to the second floor of by house as my loft. I
have three rooms plus a bathroom; I've dedicated one room for sewing; the other
room is my office [because I work from home] until the end of Jan 2010
when I will become a FTRL - full-time retired librarian. And
the third, of course, a bedroom.
Studio A, as I refer to the
stitching room, is small - only 8 x 8 feet. I had it painted white to make it
appear larger. It houses fabrics, several bookcases, a white wicker chair, my
PiPs - quilting projects in progress - and of course, my sewing machine and
related paraphanalia. Color comes from the fabrics, books and paraphanalia.
Even though the room is small, it's large enough to have a friend visit: one of
us can sew on the machine and the other, hand stitch...and we both can have
tea!
Studio A is a pleasant room; I find
it especially inviting in the morning, as the sun is rising in the east.
Despite the fact that I see my neighbor's house's brick wall when I look out
the window, the light is very good. And, I've positioned the wicker chair so
that I can actually not see the brick wall and instead, see sky and a few trees.
Studio A was also my mother's room
and it gives me a warm, safe and secure feeling. Lots of pleasant memories
are summoned forth and I'm looking forward to making many more. Plus a quilt or two...
Cheers~
